With incest and gore, we can see why Disney has stayed away from this story…

Beloved, a novel by Toni Morrison, tells the story of Sethe, a freed slave living in Kentucky after the Civil War who kills her young daughter to protect her from becoming enslaved. A decade later, Sethe meets Beloved, a beautiful young woman who eerily resembles Sethe's deceased daughter. We get that this tale probably isn't suitable for kids, but it is a great story about a woman being literally haunted by her past.

After her officer husband was tragically killed in battle, Sergeant Mariya Oktyabrskaya, sold all of her belongings, bought a tank and joined the Soviet Army. She then became the first female tanker to ever win the Hero of the Soviet Union Award for her service during World War II. Guess this gal is just too bad-ass for Disney to handle!

Move over, Mulan! Colonel Petra “Pedro” Herrera bravely disguised herself as a man during the Mexican Revolution in order to be eligible for battlefield promotions. But, she became so popular that she eventually started proudly fighting under her own name and by 1914, she was leading 200 men into battle. We'll never understand why this amazing, historical heroine doesn't have her own Disney movie!

Pasiphaë, a mythological Greek queen gave birth to a Minotaur, a creature that is half-bull and half-human. Though she's definitely royalty, we're thinking Disney wouldn't want to step on the toes of another, mythological tale–Hercules.
