Gone Too Soon! ’90 Day Fiance’ Stars Whose Loved Ones Died

Remedios, Sheila’s Mom

David traveled to the Philippines during season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days to meet his online girlfriend Sheila for the first time. While their romantic connection clearly translated in real life, Sheila worried about the Nebraska native meeting her family as she feared they would struggle to connect due to his hearing impairment. The mom of one also confessed she was nervous for David to see her living situation as she considered her family “poor” and didn’t want him to think she was using him for financial gain. 

Her fears were warranted as David later called the evening “awkward” and worried about spending the night there after noting it smelt like urine and feces. Sadly, after the family went to sleep, Sheila’s mom died in an early morning accident. 

“My mother fell down near the stairs. It wasn’t nailed properly and it gave out,” Sheila explained during a July 2023 episode. She said the accident happened around 5 a.m. while the rest of the family was sleeping, and they found her body when they woke up the next morning.

Elmira Sukaj, Florian Sukaj’s Sister

After leaving Albania to be with his then fiancé, Stacey Silva, Florian revealed the tragic loss of his sister, Elmira Sukaj, to cancer in November 2021. 

“Just like very positive, very positive person [sic],” Florian spoke of his sister during a February 2023 episode of Darcey & Stacey. “Never talk bad for nobody, like is very like, every time have hope in everything … but God take the good people.” 

Sally, Kim Menzies’ Mother

Kim lost her mom in January 2022 following her time on season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. On the series, the San Diego, California, native opened up about being her mother’s caregiver. 

“I would lay down in the street and die for two people in my life,” Kim spoke of her bond with her close-knit family on the premiere in December 2021. “And that is my mother and my son, Jamal.”

Jose Joaquin, Guillermo Rojer’s Brother

On season 9 of 90 Day Fiancé, which debuted in April 2022, Guillermo Rojer left his life in the Dominican Republic to begin the K-1 visa process with real estate agent Kara Bass in Charlottesville, Virginia. While the pair had a short 35 days until their German beer hall wedding, Guillermo got the heartbreaking news in the middle of the night that his brother, José Joaquín, had died. 

“Back in the Dominican Republic, José Joaquín had to move in with his middle brother in a different city so that they could, like, kind of caretake for him,” the Virginia native explained of her future husband’s sibling on a June 2022 episode of the flagship show. “He’s been going through some dialysis for about a year prior to him being hospitalized, and so I think last night, things really took a turn for the worse and that they didn’t think he was gonna make it.” 

Unfortunately, due to the K-1 visa rules, Guillermo could not legally leave the United States to visit his brother in the Dominican Republic without an “Advance Parole” document. Without it, if he left the country in the days leading up to his nuptials to Kara, he would risk having to reapply for the fiancé visa since it only allows a one-time entry into the country. 

The season 9 star found a special way to pay tribute to his late brother on his Virginia nuptials by designating a seat for him in the front row during their ceremony.

Adriel, Anny Francisco and Robert Springs’ Son

Anny Francisco and Robert Springs lost their 7-month-old son Adriel on April 21, 2022. 

“This was the last pic an hour before my son’s surgery,” Anny shared via Instagram at the time. “Life is unfair, I just wanted my kids.” While it’s unclear what specific surgery Adriel had, Anny hinted her baby had a heart condition while announcing his death two days

Jason Hitch

Season 2 alum Jason Hitch died from COVID-related complications in December 2021. The Florida native made his debut in the franchise with Brazilian beauty, Cassia Tavares. The pair tied the knot in 2014, however they later split in 2017 and filed for divorce in 2018. 

Gary Rathgeber, Corey Rathgeber’s Father

Corey Rathgeber faced tragedy while he was outside the United States with his long-time partner, Evelin Villegas, on season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. The spinoff documented the Mill A, Washington, resident as he sold all his belongings to begin a life with Evelin, despite his family’s major hesitations. 

“I hope they’re happy, but I don’t know how they’re going to work out all their difference,” his father told TLC cameras in June 2019. “Where they want to live and what they believe and if they want to have kids, they’re going to have to compromise.” 

Unfortunately, Corey’s dad wasn’t there to see his son’s return from Ecuador as he passed away from an inflamed pancreas, and it deeply affected the 90 Day Fiancé star. “We were just sitting on the couch, and all of a sudden, he got just really bad pains,” his mother described of her husband’s passing at the time. “He’d gone downhill pretty fast. They had to intubate him, and they finally told us that he wasn’t going to make it.” The patriarch passed away in January 2019.  

“It’s heartbreaking to lose my dad,” Corey told producers.

Glenda Standridge, Angela Deem’s Mother

Angela sadly lost her mother just days after her Nigerian wedding to Michael llesanmi in February 2020. Earlier in season 5, the Hazlehurst, Georgia, native was torn about leaving her mother to travel to Africa to get married. However, her mother gave her the OK to go down the aisle and remained under the care of Angela’s daughter, Skyla.

“All I can understand [from] what she’s saying is Grandma, my mom, is unresponsive and an ambulance is there. So, I won’t know no more until Skyla calls me and at this point, I can’t get a hold of her, so,” the mom of two said during a tearful selfie video in September 2020 of Happily Ever After.

Kazhem Paschel, Geoffrey Paschel’s Son

Before the 90 Days star Geoffrey Paschel sadly lost his son at just 13 months old in March 2018 after the infant suffered a seizure.

“February 3 marks the day that our little boy would be 3 years old. He was an absolute jewel and [I] wish beyond every measure that he was still here to be able to enjoy it,” the Kentucky native wrote in a February 2020 Instagram tribute.  “There is not a moment that goes by whereas he is not encompassing my every thought. I know whatever form he is in, he’ll always be by my side. I only wish I could have shared his presence with the world beyond his mere 13 months.”

Michael Silva, Darcey and Stacey Silva’s Brother

Prior to their on-screen fame, Darcey Silva and Stacey Silva lost their older brother, Michael Silva.

“When my brother Michael was 24 years old, he was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Ewing sarcoma,” the House of 11 founder explained on an episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. “He passed away, July 11, 1998, at the age of 27, and he fought as hard as he could.”
