During a scene that aired last season, she didn’t even think that it was a good idea for Paul stay married to Karine after she threatened to divorce him just weeks after their wedding.

“You know what I think? I think you and Karine need to talk [amongst] yourselves and really think about what you’re doing and in the future,” Mary told her son.

“Well, we had a very hard first couple of years but we worked it out. You need to talk to each other, and if you can’t work it out — you need to come home because this can’t happen again and again,” Mary told her son.

“I don’t want to have to tell you what to do, but I think you know. It’s too many differences, way too many differences,” she continued.

“You know how I feel. I don’t think it’s gonna work,” she added. “When we talked last time, I said, ‘It’s too soon, don’t do it. You need need to learn about each other and everything.’”

“If it wasn’t meant, it wasn’t meant. At least you tried. You went out there, you tried, you gave it your all, y’all were having fun with it in the beginning but it’s not like a vacation — it’s a life together that you have to make work. It’s just too many factors against you. I think it’s time to stop and come home.”

During the season 2 tell-all, Paul revealed that he may not be able to come back to the United States with Karine if he doesn’t get his parent’s blessing for their marriage. Paul explained that he might need his mother or father to sponsor Karine’s visa, but that may not happen because Paul’s father does not approve of his marriage with Karine.

“If my income is not to a certain bracket, then you have to have a financial sponsor,” Paul said. “We have to discuss that with father. Because everything in our family goes through father. Then my mother can’t go against my father — that’s their marriage. And I respect that.”
