American Idol Alum Joanne Borgella Dies from Rare form of Cancer
Joanne Borgella, a contestant on season 7 of American Idol, died on Saturday morning after fighting for the past year against what she described as a “rare case” of cancer.
Borgella’s family broke the news on her Facebook page Saturday, and said the singer passed away early that morning. They added, “Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken throughout every obstacle she encountered.”
The singer suffered from endometrial cancer; a rare form of cancer that attacks the lining of the womb.
Borgella remained positive, and continued to update fans on her health. Her last Facebook post from September 23, read: “Gooooood morning!! We are heading back to radiation for 2 procedures!! God js with us!! I have lots to fill you in on.. The presence of The Lord is here.. Prayers up!!! I love you guys #GodsGotThis #ThePowerofPrayer #Faith #IWillbeCancerFree2014 #JoanneBorgella”
Joanne was the first winner of “Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance” using the name “Miss F.A.T.” in 2005. In 2008 she made it to the top 24 on the 7th season of American Idol.
