Are ‘Sister Wives’ Stars Meri, Robyn and Janelle Still Together With Kody? Get An Update
The polygamous Brown family of Sister Wives lost their second sister wife, as In Touch exclusively confirmed in December 2022 that Janelle Brown left husband Kody Brown after almost 30 years of marriage.
Shortly after In Touch broke the news about Janelle, first wife Meri Brown revealed during a sneak peek of the Sister Wives: One on One tell-all that she was also separated from Kody, noting that it was the former car salesman’s decision to end their marriage. The split came after months of distance, with both Kody and Meri living relatively separate lives from one another.
“It just doesn’t make sense to me that he would be so frustrated with Christine [Brown] and be like, ‘She just made this decision. We didn’t consult, we didn’t talk, she just made the decision and then he says, ‘No, I don’t consider myself married to Meri,'” the Lizzie’s Heritage Inn owner told host Sukanya Krishnan. “Like, he just made the decision. I’ve never heard him say that to me.”
The family patriarch is only currently in a relationship with one of the four original sister wives, Robyn Brown. Christine Brown was the first sister wife to call it quits, announcing that she and Kody had split in November 2021. She has since relocated to Utah from Flagstaff, Arizona, and is engaged to fiancé David Woolley.

Kody and Robyn Brown
Kody and Robyn married in a spiritual ceremony on May 22, 2010. They later legally wed on December 11, 2014. Despite the stress of the family’s big move to Flagstaff, Arizona, plus the dissolution of his other marriages, it seems Kody and Robyn’s relationship is still going strong today.
“I married Kody because I had a belief in Celestial Plural Marriage and I had a testimony that I belonged in Kody’s family. It was a choice,” Robyn wrote via Twitter on February 14, 2021.
Drama kicked off in season 16 because of the hierarchy in his brood, or at least the feeling of one existing. “It’s pissing me off, they’re looking to Robyn for some kind of approval,” Kody said in a season 16 episode. “I don’t have a head wife in this family.”
These days, Robyn is the only wife left standing, and she has been consistently mournful about the failed relationships around her throughout season 18. Recalling the holiday season specifically, Robyn said that the past Christmas without the entire Brown brood was “tragic” for her. Unless the whole family is together, Robyn attested, “It is a cheap version. It is a broken version.”

Kody and Christine Brown
Kody and Christine got married on March 25, 1994. Christine admitted during the season 15 premiere that she still struggled with jealousy of seeing her sister wives with Kody, and she also complained that when she does spend time with Kody one on one, he is usually on his phone.
During the emotional season finale, Christine got candid about her dissatisfaction with her marriage to Kody. Christine and Kody sat down for a discussion with the rest of Christine’s sister wives where she brought up her hope that the family would eventually move back to Utah after polygamy was decriminalized in the state. She said she thought the move might be a possibility ever since they returned to their former home state to visit friends earlier in the season.
“When we were there, you guys all talked about [how] Utah was home, and the mountains were home, and family was there,” the TLC personality said on the April 18 episode. “So, I thought that you felt the same.”
When they all said that Utah would not be an option for their family, Christine got extremely upset and Meri pulled her aside to have a one-on-one talk.
“Meri, I can’t do marriage with Kody anymore,” Christine said. “I don’t want to … It’s not enough.”
Meri, who has had her fair share of marital issues with Kody, tried to convince Christine that she should stay with Kody and their family in Flagstaff and work through the rough patch. While she told Meri she would try to make it work, she shared her true feelings in a solo confessional interview.
“I agreed to move to Flagstaff, and I followed Kody here, but it’s been a struggle the whole time,” Christine told the cameras, revealing she wanted to return to Utah. “I’m tired of feeling like I don’t matter, I’m tired of not having his support when I really need it. I’m just tired. I need a partnership. I need something different than this.”
Since then, In Touch confirmed that Christine moved into a duplex located in Utah.
On November 2, 2021, Christine and Kody confirmed they had split after 27 years together, shocking fans of the family.
“After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” Christine shared via Instagram. “We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this stage within our family.”
Kody released his own statement on Instagram just minutes after Christine’s statement was posted.
“Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness,” he said. “We enjoyed many years together and I have a large amount of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents.”
Christine has since moved on and is engaged to fiancé David Woolley. She still is a fixture on Sister Wives season 18, and fans have watched as she has advocated for herself and her fellow sister wives, especially Janelle. Meanwhile, her dynamic with Robyn still seems tense, claiming in season 18 that Robyn “does not want family, she wants monogamy.”

Kody and Janelle Brown
Kody and Janelle tied the knot on January 20, 1993. The couple appeared to be going strong throughout the years on the TLC hit, even though Janelle rarely shared photos of Kody on her Instagram page. They did cuddle up for a sweet selfie during a one on one date night on their Coyote Pass property in June 2021, shortly after she announced her temporary move to an RV amid their delayed building plans.
Over recent years, however, cracks began to emerge between Janelle and Kody. In a teaser trailer for the second half of season 17, Kody told his wife, “You and I have been acting like we weren’t a married couple for most of our marriage, Janelle,” with the Sister Wives star and mom of six responding in a confessional, “If he can’t handle my independence, I don’t know if this works for me anymore.”
Christine’s daughter Gwendlyn further piqued fan interest in a possible split between Kody and Janelle during a November 8, 2022, TikTok Live. Addressing a slew of Sister Wives topics, Gwendlyn said that “only Meri and Robyn are left” with the family patriarch. Janelle has always been close with Christine and her children, though she has not publicly responded to Gwendlyn’s claims.
Just weeks later, Christine’s aunt, Kristyn, told In Touch exclusively that Janelle had left Kody mentally – the only thing stopping a public break is Kody’s perspective on divorce, she claimed.
“It’s worse for men to divorce their wives,” Kristyn said of the family’s religion, Apostolic United Brethren (AUB), and its fundamentals surrounding marriage. “That’s why [Kody] wants them to leave. If they’re going to, if they kick him out, then they are looked down upon much worse. Kody’s got to get them to [leave on their own].”
On December 9, 2022, In Touch broke the news that Janelle and Kody had ended their spiritual marriage after 29 years together. A source exclusively revealed that the Plexus ambassador had “outgrown” her husband.
Meanwhile, Janelle admitted in a season 18 episode that she and Kody had separated prior to their final divorce, explaining in a confessional that she was upset by the lack of “attention” she was receiving. “Be a man [and] separate your relationships like you have for our entire plural marriage, and pay attention here,” she said.
For his part, Kody admitted, “We’ve been separated probably two or three times in the past. [It] always felt like that was because she couldn’t manage the relationship with her sister wives. I never felt like that was over.”

Kody and Meri Brown
Kody and Meri were married the longest out of all the Sister Wives couples. They tied the knot on April 21, 1990, but they legally divorced in September 2014 so Kody could legally marry Robyn to adopt her children from a previous marriage.
Even though they were divorced on paper, the couple still remained in a spiritual union. Their bond was rocked by Meri’s catfish cheating scandal in 2015 when she was involved in an emotional affair with a man whom she believed was “Sam Cooper.” She later learned the person she was chatting with was actually a woman named Jackie Overton.
The couple were still struggling with the fallout from their legal divorce and Meri’s scandal when they started going to couples therapy in 2019 to work on their issues. Meri later shared an update on her relationship with Kody, confirming they are in it for the long haul.
“Let’s just clarify something here. I love this man. I don’t owe anyone an explanation but I’ll do it anyway,” Meri wrote via Instagram in December 2020. “I’m well aware that we, as a family, have chosen to put ourselves ‘out there’, which, in turn, brings about all kinds of speculation, commentary, and opinions. But it comes down to this. My relationship with him is MY relationship with him.”
“Sure, we’ve had ups and downs through the years (I mean, isn’t that somewhat normal?) High highs and low lows. All of which, you get to see ‘some’ of, and speculate on. And that’s ok. You do you, boo,” Meri continued. “But here’s my truth. I love him. I love my family. I’m committed. I have 30 years in this. We struggle. We communicate. We repair relationships as the parties involved are willing and able.”
She also addressed fans’ comments claiming she doesn’t spend enough time with her husband and her family. “I’m an independent person who does her own thing. I travel a lot. (Well, pre-covid that is.) I have multiple businesses. I have many friends. I have male friends, (Gasp! Shocker!) and I won’t apologize for that,” Meri added. “I’m human. I have feelings. I make mistakes. I rise when I’ve fallen. Sometimes it takes longer than other times to rise. I. Will. Always. Rise. I get angry. I feel peace. I feel pain. I feel joy. I forgive. I love. I’m HUMAN.”
She concluded, “I’m here. I’m committed. I’m not going anywhere. Don’t get your hopes up on that.” However, recently, Meri revealed in a season 16 episode of Sister Wives that Kody told her that they are just “friends” and there have been plenty of other signs that there is trouble in paradise for them.
In an October 2022 teaser trailer, Kody was heard saying that he doesn’t “consider [himself] married to Meri.”
“If she wanted to move on and marry another, she wouldn’t get an argument with me,” he said.
Meri announced during a December 2022 TLC special that she and the businessman have ended their more than 30-year marriage.
Despite confirming their split, Meri added that she would be interested in reconciling with her ex. “I definitely would. But I don’t think that he’s interested,” she said at the time.
On January 10, 2023, Kody and Meri broke their silence while issuing a joint statement about their split.
“In light of a recent unapproved press release, we feel compelled to share our own truth, in our own way and in our own timing,” their statement, which was shared via Instagram, began. “After more than a decade of working on our relationship in our own unique ways, we have made the decision to permanently terminate our marriage relationship.”
The reality stars added that they’re “committed to kindness and respect toward each other and to all the members of our family.”
“We are also committed to the continued healing of any and all relationships within the family so that we can move forward with forgiveness, grace and love,” Kody and Meri concluded in the statement.
In her caption, Meri insisted that they had not decided to end their marriage until after they filmed the Sister Wives: One on One special.
“There is so much more to be told about this story, and I assure you, my truth will be told. But for now, know that there is peace in my heart, and I hold no animosity toward Kody,” she wrote. “I am not, and pray that I never will be, in a place where I will enjoy making, or seeing you make, rude and demeaning comments about him.”
As for Meri’s relationship with the other wives, she and Robyn bonded when they discovered that they both counted how many days Kody spent with each wife.
“I remember there was a time where it wasn’t so good [between us],” Mer told Robyn in a season 18 teaser clip. “And he kept telling me, ‘You’re getting all this extra time. I’m with you all the time and I’m with you more than I am Janelle or Christine, blah, blah, blah.’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t see it.’” For her part, Robyn admitted that she “literally started keeping track, not of where he was, but when he was with me, and I was less than a third.”
Amid season 18, Meri admitted, “Kody has basically left me already,” with the patriarch noting that he thinks they are better as friends.
