Audrey Roloff Reveals She’s Suffering From Mono — Is Baby Ember Safe From the Virus?
There are no such things as sick days when you're a mom! Audrey Roloff has been trooping through a nasty illness for the past week, and on June 11 she finally gave in and went to the doctor. Shockingly, the 26-year-old wife and mom found out she has contracted Mononucleosis, AKA "the kissing disease." While everyone is hoping she gets better soon, fans couldn't help but worry about whether or not she could pass on the illness to her nine-month-old daughter, Ember.
"The past week I’ve been feeling so rundown and have been experiencing a lot of abdominal pain," Audrey explained in the caption of an Instagram post. Auj said that her instincts told her something was seriously wrong, so she went to the "dreaded urgent care" to get some tests. After they checked her out for strep throat and pregnancy, she asked them to check for mono on a whim. "When he came back in with the results he said, 'Well, I think you’re the first breastfeeding mom I’ve ever seen test POSITIVE for Mono.'"
While Audrey joked that "I'm not making out with people and sharing drinks!" many fans said that it's totally normal for healthy adults to come down with the infection. "My husband (who is 34) just came down with mono last month," said a fan. "We learned that you can have the virus, in a dormant state, for quite a while and never show symptoms. The virus can be activated by stress." Audrey did admit that she's been super stressed about the "edits for our book, getting ready to travel out of town for a work trip, and Ember waking up in the night to nurse (which has been happening for the past 3 weeks… teething ??♀️)" So we're willing to bet that's what caused her to get sick.
Audrey certainly isn't into the idea of down time. She's a busy mom with a business trip coming up, but unfortunately the doc said ”Just try to rest as much as you can for the next 4-8 weeks." Audrey laughed at that, but let's hope she takes it seriously. She also said she's "praying she doesn't pass it to Ember or Jeremy," but she was still posting videos with her baby girl today. So can she pass it on? Luckily, Ember is probably safe.
"Mono usually is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a very common virus that most kids are exposed to at some point while growing up," explained Kid's Health. "Infants and young kids infected with EBV typically have very mild symptoms or none at all." So Ember probably won't get sick from Audrey, but she could still contract the virus and come down with the infection later in life. Jeremy, on the other hand, should definitely be careful around Audrey right now!
