‘Teen Mom OG’ Star Tyler Baltierra Reflects on Placing Carly for Adoption One Day After Her 10th Birthday

“10 years ago yesterday, we were only 17. 10 years ago, we brought you into the world,” the 27-year-old began the lengthy post. “10 years ago, we only got to hold you by ourselves for a half hour in the hospital as we just cried & stared at you, remembering every little detail of how absolutely perfect you were, since we knew that even though we just met, we had to say goodbye. 10 years ago, we had to make the hardest decision of our lives & give you everything your innocent life deserved that we just couldn’t provide at the time.”

He continued, “10 years ago, we held each other & wept as we watched you drive away in the back of the car with the only parents that were worthy to be yours. 10 years ago … your life changed so many others for the better & has blessed more lives than I can count. We love you so much & hopefully get to see you soon baby girl. Happy Birthday, Carly! #Adoption #BirthparentStrong“

Followers quickly rallied behind the father-of-three to offer their unwavering support. “Only 8 more years until she can decide when she wants to see you guys. Woohooo!” one person wrote, while another added, “Absolutely beautiful. The most selfless thing you both could have done. I have followed you since the beginning and you both are strongest most beautiful people.” A third chimed in, “I cried watching you guys go through that. Can’t believe she is 10! Happy Birthday, Carly.”

Even fellow Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry got in on the commenting and shared, “I have the chills!!! So so proud of y’all & happy birthday to Carly!”

Fans first watched Tyler and Cate’s story unfold on 16 and Pregnant and have been following the couple on their adoption journey ever since. Last year, the couple posted similar tributes.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARLY!! Today you are 9 years old NINE!!! That is insane to me!!!” Catelynn wrote on May 18 of her first biological child. “Today at 10:39 a.m., you took your very first breath and brought so much joy to this world!!! We love you so much and will talk with you later.”

Tyler, meanwhile, shared his own post for Carly. “Happy Birthday to my beautiful first born!” he captioned the same photo from this year. “I can’t believe Carly is nine years old today and I’m just so blessed because I may not have the luxury of seeing her every day but I have the peace of mind knowing I will see her one day a year (sometimes two).”

He added, “I have learned a lot throughout this adoption journey and I have made mistakes in the past regarding that relationship. But I feel like I have grown up and matured through all of that and I now realize that I need to count my blessings and I am proud to say that I have 9 blessings, 9 years of seeing her grow through visits and pictures, 9 birthday cakes, and ONE child to forever impact my life in so many ways. I love you Carly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Your birth daddy loves you SO MUCH!” BRB, crying.

While both Catelynn and Tyler have experienced their fair share of struggles — namely with depression and substance abuse — Cate insisted in a previous message that giving their firstborn up for adoption was the best decision they could have made.

“Tomorrow is Carly’s 9th birthday wow … I cannot believe that 9 years ago, Tyler and I were waiting to go to the hospital to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives … but it ended up being one of the BEST things we could have done for her … Carly, we love you so much and are so proud of you! #birthdaygirl #adoption journey.”

In addition to sharing this milestone moment, Catelynn helped discredit the rumors that she and Tyler are getting a divorce. Fans were convinced that the couple was calling it quits after Catelynn changed her Instagram handle from Baltierra to Lowell. However, it’s clear that the pair’s connection is stronger than ever.

In fact, the reality TV parents recently give birth to another baby girl, Vaeda.

Back in September, the duo announced they were expecting via Us Weekly. “This baby is our rainbow after the storm,” Lowell told the outlet, referring to the miscarriage she suffered in 2017.

The middle-school sweethearts were using birth control when Cate became pregnant. “We were using protection and everything,” she said. “This baby just wanted to be here. It was very unexpected.”
