Christopher Watts Pleads Guilty To Murdering His Pregnant Wife And Young Daughters
In a shocking turn of events, Christopher Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant wife and their children while appearing in court on Nov. 6. His confession spared him a possible death penalty, which was the maximum punishment he faced if found guilty. Now, Watts is set to be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The 33-year-old was whisked away in cuffs on Aug. 15 and charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of Shan’ann, 34, and their daughters Bella, 4 and Celeste, 3. His wife was also 15 weeks pregnant with a baby boy at the time, who would have been named Nico. Watts pleaded guilty to a total of nine accounts including the unlawful termination of pregnancy for the death of his unborn son. After coming to an agreement with the victims’ family, District Attorney Michael Rourke eliminated the possibility of the death penalty in exchange for Watts pleading guilty to all counts.
Shan’ann and her girls’ bodies were found on an oil site owned by the company Watts worked at and was later fired from, one day after his arrest. Watts’ formal sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. and he’s been held at the Weld County Jail since his arrest. The Frederick man was previously on suicide watch, but he’s reportedly starting to change his demeanor. “He’s actually very energized now,” a source told People. “He’s willing to confront reality now and to decide what his best move is.”
“He’s still sad, but there’s an anger there; he still feels like people don’t really know what happened, and it’s frustrating to him,” the insider added. “He’s able to look at things logically now and make the right decisions for himself. He’s turned a corner.” Meanwhile, Shan’ann’s friends and loved ones are trying to come to terms with this horrific tragedy.
