Constance Wu Slams Claims She Was a ‘Difficult Diva’ on the Set of ‘Hustlers’: ‘We Had the Best Time Making This!’
After a report claimed that Constance Wu was a “difficult diva” on the set of Hustlers and insisted on being listed as the first name in the posters, the actress is now shutting down those rumors.
“Constance had no knowledge or awareness of acts on her behalf of Hustlers to have reporting mirror that of the film’s castings or contractual billings,” a rep told Us Weekly on Thursday, July 25. “Representatives associated with her and the film did engage media outlets to correct misrepresentations of the film’s characters and castings in the spirit of calibrating credits to accurately reflect the guidelines set forth in standard legal contracts.”
The rep wanted to make it clear that the 37-year-old got along with everyone just fine. “While Constance’s character in Hustlers is the key protagonist, any reporting that implies or indicates that she demanded or directed this recently reported initiative is patently untrue and a clear manipulation of facts,” the rep continued. “She has always been and remains a proud supporter of all her fellow castmates inclusion in the celebration of this film and telling of this story.”
The drama — which follows former strip club employees who steal from rich Wall Street clients — features a slew of Hollywood A-listers including Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Keke Palmer and Julia Stiles.
Despite the accusations, it seems like the Crazy Rich Asians star had an incredible time on set shooting this movie. “We made this film with an incredible spirit of sisterhood and love. Any reports otherwise have felt like an age-old attempt to pit us against each other and knock us down, when in truth, we had the best time making this!” the brunette beauty told the outlet. “We won’t be knocked down. We will continue to share and celebrate this story together, as sisters. Thank you to all the fans for believing in us and supporting this film.”
The movie is based on a New York Magazine article called “The Hustlers at Scores” that went viral in 2015. Hustlers premieres at Toronto International Film Festival in early September and hits theaters nationwide on Friday, September 13.
