Demi Lovato Sips on a Mocktail at Friend’s Birthday Party: ‘She’s Determined to Lead a Life of Sobriety’
So much to celebrate. Demi Lovato sipped on a mocktail at a friend’s birthday party on Tuesday, July 23 — one year after her near-fatal overdose. The 26-year-old “was in a good mood,” an eyewitness told Us Weekly while she attended the event at Barton G. in Los Angeles. The brunette beauty enjoyed the restaurant’s liquid nitrogen Diamonds Are Forever drink. The group was “loud and cheerful,” according to the onlooker, and they ate steak, striped bass, seasonal chopped salad and popcorn.
The “Skyscraper” crooner was hospitalized after she was found unconscious at her Hollywood home in July 2018 after suffering an accidental drug overdose. The Grammy nominee stayed in the hospital for nearly two weeks before she checked herself into rehab.
Meanwhile, the Texas native has been focusing on herself the past year. “Every day is a constant struggle for Demi,” a source told the outlet. “She’s remained determined to lead a life of sobriety and live her life to its fullest potential, especially following the first anniversary of her relapse.”
So, what has Demi been up to lately? She frequently posts videos of herself at kickboxing class and enjoys eating healthy food. The Disney Channel alum also surrounds “herself with supportive people” including her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama — who was by her side as she recovered in the hospital last summer.
In March, the Camp Rock star got candid about her ongoing journey to sobriety. “Today, I would’ve had 7 years sober,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “I don’t regret going out because I needed to make those mistakes, but I must never forget that’s what they were: mistakes.”
She added, “Grateful that AA/NA never shuts the door on you no matter how many times you have to start your time over. I didn’t lose 6 years. I’ll always have that experience, but now I just get to add to that time with a new journey and time count.”
Then, in May, Demi gave a sweet shout-out to her best friends for being there for her during the hard times. “#ThreeCourseMeal … just me and my best friends living our best lives. Thank you for never leaving me in my darkest moments, for always drying my tears … even when they’re from watching Moana,” she captioned a photo of herself with Sara Elizabeth Mitchell, a.k.a. hip hop artist Sirah, and Matthew Scott Montgomery from their vacation in Bora Bora.
“Thank you for being loyal, honest and so grateful for every little thing … like crying because we swam with fish/sharks/stingray and coral reef,” she added. “I’m so lucky to be best friends with two incredible souls who are so talented and creative because it inspires me daily. And you’re so supportive of me and every little thing I do.”
It seems like Demi is in a much better place these days. You go, girl!
