What have they got to smile about these days? Jenelle Evans posted throwback photos of herself and her husband, David Eason, on Instagram from Memorial Day Weekend 2019, but has since deleted the snapshots. In the pictures, the former Teen Mom 2 couple was all smiles during a kid-free weekend getaway to Washington, D.C. even though they’re still in the midst of a custody battle. See the photo and learn more in the gallery below.

It’s a little hard to believe that David, 30, and Jenelle, 27, have much to smile about these days.

Against

After all, they recently lost temporary custody of their kids. The couple spent several days in court fighting to regain custody before a North Carolina judge ruled against it.

Protect

The North Carolina judge reportedly found Jenelle and her husband to be “not credible.” Plus, the judge told Jenelle she didn’t do her job “as a mother to protect her kids,” according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup.

Irony

Ironically, this all stems from David’s dog killing incident in April, after which he defended his actions and explained he was all about protecting his family. He claimed he shot and killed his wife’s dog, Nugget, to protect their daughter, Ensley.

Don’t Care

“I don’t give a damn what animal bites my baby on the face. … Whether it be your dog or mine, a dog is a dog, and I don’t put up with that s–t at all,” he wrote on May 1.

Mission

“I’m all about protecting my family,” he continued. “It is my life’s mission. Some people are worth killing or dying for, and my family means that much to me.”

Hate Me

“You can hate me all you want, but this isn’t the first time the dog bit Ensley aggressively,” he claimed. “The only person that can judge [whether] or not [an] animal is a danger to MY CHILD is ME.”

But ultimately, someone else did appear to judge David for the incident — Child Protective Services.

Not With Them

Several of the Teen Mom 2 alum’s kids are no longer in his or Jenelle’s care. Jenelle’s son Jace — whom she already did not have custody of — plus the daughter she shares with David, Ensley, are currently with Jenelle’s mom, Barbara Evans. Jenelle’s son Kaiser is with his father Nathan Griffith, and David’s daughter Maryssa is reportedly with her maternal grandmother.

Vacay?

In the midst of dealing with trying to get those kids back, apparently, David and Jenelle took a trip to Washington D.C. over Memorial Day Weekend.

Not Great

Jenelle shared photos from their trip to Instagram, and she must have gotten some bad comments or recognized that posting pics from a couple’s trip right now is not a great look, because the snaps were quickly deleted.

In one of the photos, the duo took a selfie in front of the White House. (Must have been crowded around the holiday … )

Both former reality TV stars are smiling and appear content in the shots, despite what’s going on with their custody battle.

Kinda Weird

Perhaps Jenelle and her husband took the trip to get away from their troubles for the weekend. But you’ve got to admit, it’s still kind of a bad look, considering none of their kids were with them on the trip since they don’t currently have custody of the children.
