Fans Slam Jessa Duggar for Posting a Video After Spurgeon Peed His Pants: ‘Are You So Hard Up for Attention?’
Potty training can be a struggle for everyone involved — but for Jessa Duggar, it’s turned into just as much of a social media mess as anything else. Back in August 2018, the Duggar daughter faced hate because her older son, Spurgeon, wasn’t potty trained yet. On Saturday, March 23, she shared that they’d finally started working on it, and all seemed well at first. She explained the system that she was using and asked fans for tips, sharing a video of her toddler in his big-boy underwear and all the candy she was using as a part of a reward system on the bed. In a second video, though, she also shared footage of her son after he’d peed his pants — and that’s when the proverbial s–t hit the fan.
“Getting real here, Mamas, 😄” the Counting On star wrote to her followers online, calling the first video “expectations” and the second video “reality.” The soon-to-be-mom-of-three, who has roasted her kids online before, continued, “We’re setting the 10-15 min timer and trying every time it goes off. We have nerds for prizes — 1 for trying, 2 for pee, 4 for poo. (love that they’re tiny, so not a sugar overload). Started this morning, but so far, we’ve had 3 accidents and nothing in the potty. 🙈 Maybe I’m not having him sit and try long enough?? 🤔”
That’s when the comments started rolling in. While some offered helpful hints from their own experiences (including family members Jill Duggar and Anna Duggar) and others insisted that it seemed like Spurgeon just wasn’t ready to for potty training yet, some were upset that Jessa broadcasted her son’s “accident” to the whole wide world. “That is terrible. You should not belittle your child like that. Think of the outcome,” wrote one commenter. “If you had a accident would you want it shown for thousands of people to see? I think not!!” And that wasn’t all. Another continued, “Ugh he’s gonna love that this was online when he’s older.”
The hate was real — and personal. “Are you so hard up for attention, Jessa, that you think it is OK or cute to post pictures of your son after he has an accident?” wrote a third. “Stop thinking about yourself long enough to help the little guy out. All kids have accidents but most parents don’t post those pictures online. Get over yourself and your desire to have it be all about you and your anything-for-attention approach.”
A fourth agreed, “Why exploit your innocent son this way? He’ll look back at this video someday and question your choice to publicly shame him. A simple pic of his wet pants in a laundry basket would have worked better to make your point. Some things ARE personal AND private, even to a child.” One kept it simple: “Potty shaming… Shame on you.”
