Some of the Duggar Kids Get Heat for Elk Hunting Trip: ‘Why Do You Like to Kill Animals?!’
Their fans are not happy. Joy-Anna Duggar shared photos from a hunting trip she took with her husband, Austin Forsyth, and a few of her brothers, and not everyone was totally pleased with the Counting On family for their choice of outing.
“Colorado,” Joy, 21, began the caption of a post that showed off both her family on the trip and the beautiful mountain setting. “Y’all! I got to come with the guys this year on their Elk hunting trip! It’s freezing cold and we have already done a ton of hiking, but we’re excited cuz we’ve already spotted some elk!👏🏼 Can’t wait for opening morning! It is absolutely GORGEOUS here!🌲🌨🏕.”
Before long, fans took to the comments to criticize the family for their chosen activity. “Why do you like to kill animals?!” one person replied. “I could not.” Another responded, “Right?! Who’s excited to slaughter animals …”
Another person added, “It’s a love of the sport …the thrill of the kill (and yes of the skill … of killing). No amount of justification from anyone will change my mind on this most barbaric of sports. Different opinions.”
There were plenty of fans, however, who told Joy and her brothers and spouse to have fun and enjoy their trip to together. Several noted how cold the setting looked, especially since the whole area appeared to be covered in snow. “Welcome to Colorado weather! You will get all 4 seasons in 1 day!!! 🌞☔🍁❄,” one person joked. It definitely seemed like a change for the Arkansas family!
Hunting isn’t a new activity for Joy, although the outrage from some fans may be. Before she got married, she liked shooting guns with her brothers, going hunting, and going camping, and her brothers once said on the TLC series, “Joy-Anna likes to be dirty.”
In general, Joy was less traditionally “girly” before she got married, but said on the show when she was courting, “I said before that I don’t like dresses, but Austin likes them on me, and so I’m branching out and I’m wearing some dresses now.” So it’s nice to see that she and her husband can enjoy an outing that seems to be more of a “boy” event for the Duggar family … even if fans aren’t exactly pleased with them hunting in the first place.
