Katie Holmes Get Candid About Her Bond With Daughter Suri Cruise: ‘We Kind of Grew Up Together’
Too cute! Katie Holmes became a mom at just 27 years old, and the actress recently got candid about her close bond with her daughter, Suri Cruise. “I was happy to become a mom in my 20s,” the 40-year-old brunette beauty told Elle U.K. in an interview published on Monday, November 4. “It’s been nice that our ages fit. How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together.”
The Dawson’s Creek alum got engaged to Tom Cruise, 57, in June 2005. Four months later, the couple announced they were expecting their first child. Katie gave birth to Suri — now 13 years old — in April 2006, and the Hollywood A-listers got married in Italy in November 2006. However, their whirlwind romance didn’t last as Katie filed for divorce in June 2012.
Since then, the teenager has been living with her mama in the Big Apple, and the two are frequently spotted out and about together. The Logan Lucky star described her “really homey” humble abode with the outlet. “I have a lot of pictures. I like vintage art from flea markets,” she said. “Because we’re in New York, I want our apartment to be very cozy and soft — the city around is us so intense and hard. So, that’s our style. And a lot of colors.”
Katie — who will star in two movies in the next two months — talked about her upcoming horror film called Brahms: The Boy II, where the mother is nervous that a doll is taking over her child’s body. “It’s a metaphor for mothers,” she explained. “You don’t want a bad influence on your kids, right?” Now that Suri is officially in her teen years, the Ohio native admitted she is “worried” for what’s to come. “There is so much bad news and hate and things that don’t make sense,” she revealed. “The atmosphere around the world is … terrifying.”
These days, Katie is leaning on her family and keeping busy by attending events in NYC after she split from her boyfriend of six years, Jamie Foxx, in August. “Her main focus is raising Suri, whom she’s so proud of,” an insider told In Touch exclusively. “Being a mom and an actress is enough for her right now.”
We adore this mommy-daughter duo!
