This is so scary. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna revealed on the Tuesday, April 16, episode of the series that her mother was once attacked by the Trailside Killer, a.k.a. David Carpenter. “He tried to rape her. He tried to kill her,” she said, according to Us Weekly.

The Trailside Killer terrorized Northern California through the 1970s and 1980s. He stalked and murdered several people — particularly women on hiking trails near San Francisco — and apparently, Lois Rinna was almost one of them. He was also a major suspect in the infamous Zodiac murders.

Lisa, 55, explained during the episode, “A few years before I was born, my mom was attacked by a man that she worked with. He picked her up at the bus stop and then, all of a sudden, he started to drive her down this really deserted road.” After saying Carpenter tried to murder her mother, Lisa added, “Luckily, a military policeman had seen them drive down this deserted road and he knew no one was supposed to be down there and he followed them down. My mom was saved that day by that military policeman.”

90-year-old Lois also spoke of the terrifying ordeal. “That was a really bad thing. I knew him. I thought that was it.” She said the killer stabbed her hand and hit her head with a hammer, then reflected, “He had a hammer in one hand and a knife in the other.” But thankfully, Lois survived. Lisa’s mother also noted that she was “the first one” the serial killer went to jail for. “They gave him seven and a half years,” she said.

Lois didn’t tell her daughter what happened until much later. Lisa said on RHOBH, “When I finally learned the truth, I had such great sadness and empathy for my mom, knowing that, not only did this happen to her, but she basically just stuffed those feelings for how many years … She never dealt with it, she never talked about it, she never even told her daughter about it.” We can’t even imagine how painful that must have been.
