She’s speaking her truth. Lots of women have bravely come forward and shared their stories about the alleged physical, mental, and sexual abuse they allegedly suffered at the hands of R&B singer R. Kelly over the years. But Lisa Van Allen’s story is particularly harrowing. In Parts 3 and 4 of Lifetime’s docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, Lisa opened up about her alleged involvement in R. Kelly’s 2002 sex tape scandal and she revealed that her then-boyfriend had plotted to kill her because of her alleged involvement.

Lisa claims she started dating R. Kelly [full name Robert Sylvester Kelly] when she was 17 years old and he was in his late 20’s or early 30’s. She explained that she would engage in threesomes with another teenage girl and R. Kelly and that he would record their sexual encounters on videotape. At sometime around the time of the filming for R. Kelly’s “I Wish” music video in 2000, Lisa noticed that R. Kelly had a bunch of tape in his bag, and she started to watch them back and saw that it contained footage of R. Kelly allegedly having sex with multiple young girls.

“I came across the (tape) one with me, him and the 14-year-old,” Lisa said, describing the graphic sex acts involving urination that were featured on the tape. “When I saw it, it upset me, and I didn’t want him to have possession of the tape anymore, because I was in it. So I took it, and I kept it on me, and when I got a chance to go back to my hotel room, I left it at my hotel room. And he never noticed it was gone.”

Lisa said she asked one of R. Kelly’s artists to hold the tape for her. But a couple of years later, when local newspaper Chicago Sun-Times started reporting about R. Kelly’s alleged lawsuits involving underage girls, Lisa was afraid that their tape would get out. So she told R. Kelly what she had done and he arranged for the person to be paid in order to get the tapes back in his possession, and they found out that the person had made copies of the tape.

“He ended up giving a little payment for the (original) and said that when he brought the rest back, he’d get the rest of the money. Rob said (the payment would be) $250,000,” Lisa said, then started to cry. “I just didn’t know that there was a point in time when they were talking about killing me.”

R. Kelly’s rep told In Touch they had “no comment” about the allegations exposed in Surviving R. Kelly.
