John was one of Perry’s CW costars. In an exclusive statement to In Touch, the Arrow star reflected on a sweet moment that took place after he reconnected with Perry.

“I spent time with Luke was when I was 19 and he was 20. It was for a show called Loving. We were both up for the same part and we spent about a week together in New York City, both screen testing for this,” John explained. “We both hung out and went on the razzle in New York and really got along and hit it off. I knew one of us would get the job and he got it, which was great because he was such a hard worker and had been working really hard out in Los Angeles. He totally deserved to get the part. I went back to school and we didn’t see each other until our 40’s.”

“I was in Arrow and also doing stuff on Legends of Tomorrow, The CW for two of their shows and he’d just been cast in Riverdale and we were doing what they call a big promotion for San Diego Comic-Con,” he continued. “I went up to him not thinking he’d remember who I was and I walked up to him and he just looked at me and said ‘John’ and gave me a big hug! I told him that I thought 90210 was awesome and that I was so happy about his success. He said, ‘You too man’. And I was just really chuffed and pleased that he remembered.”

“He was a lovely, down to earth man and well-loved by the cast and crew and the fans,” John added. “I’m sitting here in shock. I can’t believe he’s gone. It’s so sad. The person I knew from back then was fun and vivacious.”
