It’s over. Matt Lauer’s wife, Annette Roque, officially filed for divorce, Us Weekly reported on July 10. She filed on Tuesday, July 9, at the Suffolk County Court in New York. The news comes just one month after reports that Lauer, 61, and Roque, 52, had finally reached an agreement on their divorce settlement.

After news of Lauer’s sexual harassment allegations broke in 2017, the couple has been on shaky ground. An insider revealed to Us Weekly in January 2018 that they had “started the divorce process,” so it was really only a matter of time.

Previously, three months after Lauer was fired from the Today show after disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct over a two-decade period came to light, Roque allegedly kicked him out of their home in The Hamptons. In February 2018, Roque was seen having lunch in Amsterdam, and a source said she was already acting as if the union was over. “She’s taken off her wedding ring and has been living the high life in Europe,” the insider dished. “She’s acting like a woman who has already moved on from a hellish marriage.”

It sounds like Roque made out pretty well in the aftermath of the split. A source previously told Us, “Matt is furious he is essentially handing over half of his net worth to Annette. He could fight for a better deal in court but that would only result in dragging this out longer and negative headlines. He is ready to move on with his life and truly believes that a television comeback is possible.” The insider also claimed, “There will be no child or spousal support and they will split the costs for the kids.”

In early July, In Touch exclusively revealed that on top of all of that, Lauer was “devastated” and in a tight spot financially after selling his $44 million estate in the Hamptons. “Matt’s going through a really tough time,” a source revealed. “The divorce is costing him a fortune.” They added that the former talk show host, “Used to love living the high life, splashing out on cars, properties, clothes and expensive dinners. But now Matt has to cut back and be on a tight budget, which is a real shock to the system for him.” At the time, we asked what else Lauer had to lose — and now, we know.
