She just loves stirring the pot. In the last year, Megyn Kelly has managed to clash with the beloved Hoda Kotb, make an enemy of Jane Fonda, and praise Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh amid his sexual assault allegations. Most recently, however, the host of Megyn Kelly Today made a public apology for her comments on blackface. Now, a source tells In Touch exclusively that the 47-year-old is on a “downward spiral” that could cost her everything.

“She’s developed a reputation for making statements just to create controversy,” an insider told us. “Upper-level execs at NBC are fit to be tied over how she conducts herself. She’s on a downward spiral that many don’t think she’ll recover from.”

On Tuesday, Megyn held an on-air discussion about why some universities ban Halloween costumes that are considered racist or culturally insensitive. And, at the time, Megyn didn’t seem to understand the problem. “But what is racist?” she asked the panel. “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween… when I was a kid, that was OK as long as you were dressing up as a character.”

Since then, the former Fox News anchor has apologized. “I want to begin with two words: I’m sorry,” she said at the top of Wednesday morning’s show. “You may have heard that yesterday we had a conversation about political correctness and Halloween costumes… I defended the idea (of blackface), saying that as long it was respectful and part of a Halloween costume, that it seemed OK. Well, I was wrong, and I am sorry.”

She added, “I have never been a PC kind of person” but she learned from the backlash over her statements that “it is not OK for (blackface) to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise. This past year has been so painful for many people of color,” she continued. “The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too.”

Despite the apology — and the fact that she’s only in her second year of a three-year, $69 million contract — our insider says that Megyn may be on thin ice. “There have been more meetings at the network regarding Megyn than anyone can imagine,” they said, noting that she only averages about 2.4 million viewers. “Despite all the ratings trouble, strife, and feuding, Megyn seems unwilling to bend when it comes to her vision of the show. But neither is the network. They’ve got her on the ropes, and she’s starting to lose it.”
