Real Housewife Brandi Glanville ‘Knew’ Wendy Williams Had a Problem: ‘She Hid It for a Few Years’

Like the name says, Brandi was pretty unfiltered.

And she got into it quickly with Salvador, who was back on the show for round two after appearing on the March 22 episode as well. “Last week we forgot to talk about Wendy Williams,” Brandi announced to her temporary co-host, kicking things off.

As we know, Wendy’s been struggling.

After a several-weeks-long hiatus, the host finally returned to her show and claimed she was “doing swell.” But there were a lot of rumors that she had to address — including one surrounding her relationship with her husband.

A couple weeks later, the truth came out.

On March 19, she fessed up that she’s actually been living in a sober house. “I’ve got more to the story for you — the truth,” she admitted, revealing that she is splitting her time between work, attending addiction support meetings with a sober coach, and living in a sober house.

Brandi didn’t seem surprised to hear it.

“I knew there was a problem a long time ago,” she shared on the pod. She’d had her own run in with her fellow star and it had tipped her off that all was not well behind the scenes. “I did an appearance in Vegas with her where she was not okay, very sloppy, and her husband kept apologizing for her because she was a mess,” she continued.

“She was not nice to me,” Brandi claimed.

“Prior to [Vegas], she used to be nice to me, but she was mean and, like, falling over, [a] wig-shifting mess. And this was years ago and then they wrote about it in, like, Star Magazine and she just said, ‘No, I was fine,’ and everyone just believed her.”

Brandi used to be a fan of Wendy’s.

“To see her that way, it was just, like, ‘Girl, get it together.’ And I’m rooting for her 100 percent, but I was with [my friend] and we were just like, ‘Whoa. Who is that person?’ So this is not something recent.”

It was a moment that seriously burned bridges.

“She asked me to do her show when I was in New York [later on] and I said no,” Brandi continued. “It was that mean and her poor husband at the time, this was years ago, was apologizing all over the place. And so I’m happy that she’s getting help and I’m happy that she’s finally coming clean.”

Salvador gave Wendy a little more credit.

And he had his own story. “I met her once, like, from afar, briefly. And she was lovely, I love her show. I love her honest opinion on things. So I’ve never seen her in that state, but I do appreciate, like, it takes a strong person to be that vulnerable. Especially a public figure, and I appreciate her taking us along as the audience on her journey,” he said.

But Brandi wasn’t having it.

“But she didn’t!” she quickly snapped back. She’s got a theory that the only reason that Wendy came clean at all was because she didn’t really have the option not too. She could either talk about it on her own terms or everyone was going to find out anyway.

“Too many people found out,” Brandi theorized.

“She had to come out and say it. … I do applaud her for talking about it now. But it’s, it’s been too long of not being a secret. Like, people knew, and she was like, ‘It’s Graves disease, it’s this,’ and yes, I’m sure she has that, and that’s horrible, but this is not something fresh.”

Wendy wasn’t “owning up to her s–t.”

“If you watch the entertainment news, they’re all saying, ‘Well, for so long she was defending herself and saying she’s fine, her marriage is fine,’” Brandi claimed. “She can dish it out. If you’re gonna talk s–t about Beyoncé … you gotta be able to take it.”

Brandi has thoughts about the state of Wendy’s marriage, too.

And she seems to have plenty of sympathy for Kevin Hunter, even among rumors that he’s been cheating for years — and even allegedly had a baby with another woman. “[Her marriage has] been over for a long ass time, sorry,” she said when Salvador mentioned that Wendy had been spotted without her wedding ring.

She thinks the marriage talk is just a distraction.

“She’s changing the conversation away from her sobriety to her marriage because she doesn’t want to talk about sobriety anymore. Listen, I know the tricks, I’ve done it before,” Brandi said, referencing her disastrous split with Eddie Cibrian.

But the two issues may be more connected than that.

Following the rumored baby news, the Daily Mail reported that the star had checked herself out of the sober home and started drinking. “She was in a bad way and disappeared from the studio after her show Monday,” a source told Daily Mail. “She was eventually found and was drunk [and] was immediately taken to the hospital.”

Ultimately, Brandi wants the best for her.

They may not be friends — or share a stage or a microphone on each other’s shows any time soon — but she wishes Wendy well. “She’s in our thoughts. We hope she continues to get better. And there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “The tunnel is hard sometimes.”

And Brandi thinks it’s not hard to help someone struggling.

“All it takes is a smile. If someone looks at you, do a little smile. We don’t all have to be in, like, a crazy hurry and not make eye contact,” she said. “I feel like, all we can do is be the best version of ourselves.”
