Rory and Erica have been married for seven years, but their relationship spans a much longer timeline, including two years of friendship before their romance blossomed. It all began in 2012, when Rory overslept and almost missed his tee time at the Ryder Cup in Medinah, Illinois.
Rory and Erica had a meet cute when the golfer accidentally overslept when he was supposed to compete in the 2012 Ryder Cup. At the time, Erica was working as a PGA transport official, and she was sent to make sure that Rory didn’t miss his tee time. However, nothing romantic happened between them yet, as the Northern Ireland native was dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki at the time. He and Caroline got engaged in 2013, but they called things off in May 2014.

Following his split from Caroline, Rory started dating Erica in the fall of 2014. “I am very happy in my love life. … The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great,” he told the Times of London in May 2015.

December 2015
It wasn’t long before Rory and Erica were ready to take their relationship to the next level. He proposed in December 2015 in Paris. The former U.S. Open champ revealed to The Independent that he and Erica had been wanting to visit the city for a while, but the terrorist attack in Paris that year made them nearly cancel the trip.
“We had planned to go to Paris since May, we were always going to go. Then what happened made us unsure what we were going to do. So we decided to go and if we didn’t like it, if we didn’t like the mood of the place, didn’t feel comfortable, we would go somewhere else,” he said. “We felt comfortable, but I still thought at least at the start of the trip, it might make the rest of the trip even better. So we went out for dinner and that was that. It was a nice trip, a nice way to end the year.”

The couple tied the knot at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland, on April 22, 2017. Some of the wedding’s A-list guests reportedly included Ed Sheeran, Niall Horan and Stevie Wonder.

Rory revealed that he and Erica were expecting their first child at the BMW Championship on August 29, 2020, noting that she was due “any day now.” Their daughter, Poppy, was born on August 31. “She is the absolute love of our lives,” Rory wrote on Instagram on September 3.

Rory filed for divorce from Erica on May 13, 2024, In Touch confirmed. He filed the paperwork days before the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
“There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” the Northern Ireland native said in a statement to The Guardian on June 11, 2024. “Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
