So mature! Teen Mom OG stars Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell are continuing to share their journey through the adoption of their first-born daughter Carly  — which means showing the good and the bad. Unfortunately, they went through a rough patch during a recent episode of Teen Mom OG where they got bad news from Carly’s adoptive parents Brandon and Teresa Davis when they asked for their yearly visit, and now, Tyler is defending Brandon and Teresa’s decision.

“Regardless of anyone’s opinions, Brandon [and] Teresa are Carly’s parents [and] if they decide not having a visit is what’s best for her right now, then we have to trust the parental decisions that we gave them the rights to make in the first place,” Tyler, 26, wrote on Twitter. “It’s not always easy, but necessary!”

It seems like Tyler felt the need to come to Brandon and Teresa’s defense because they got backlash from his fans on social media after this week’s episode. After Cate and Ty bought a birthday cake to celebrate Carly’s ninth birthday, Cate reached out to Teresa to try to set up a date and time for their yearly visit with Carly — which they agreed upon in their open adoption, so long as Brandon and Teresa approved — but she didn’t get the response she was hoping for.

Cate said she texted Teresa a few times trying to make plans, but Teresa never responded until Cate suggested that they would just visit for dinner instead of an extended stay.

“Of course, we don’t want to see you just for dinner, you live too far away for that. And it’s not about the length of time we spend with you,'” Cate said, reading Teresa’s message out loud to Tyler.

“But basically, she was like, ‘Don’t make plans to come here.’ Right now I guess they’re working through some things with Carly,” Cate said and continued to read Teresa’s messages out loud. “‘She’s at an age where she’s trying to figure out her place in life. She’s a nine-year-old girl with a different story. She just has to get confident in who she is, and we want her to be able to do that in the least confusing way possible. She just needs to mature some.'” We hope that Cate and Ty will be able to visit with Carly sometime soon!
