Tom Cruise Is ‘Too Old’ to Star in Action Films, ‘Jack Reacher’ Author Says
Way harsh. Tom Cruise is beloved for his many action movie roles, but some think it may be time for the 57-year-old actor to take a seat. Lee Child, the author of the Jack Reacher novels, revealed how Tom reacted to the cancelation of the popular film franchise, although he thinks it is for the best. Lee, 65, believes it’s time the study actor retires from action films before he has an age-related accident.
“Cruise was reluctant. He had his own investment in it, he was going to argue against it,” Lee said in an interview with The Times. “It sounds extremely patronizing, but I think it’s good for him. He’s too old for this stuff. He’s 57, he needs to move on, transition to be a character actor.”
Lee also said Tom would have many years ahead of him if he quit with his stunt devil ways. “He could get another 20 years out of it. He has the talent. He’s a terrific guy, very considerate, good fun.”
Although the actor is committed to the art of action films, it might be time to hang up his hat after he sustained an injury filming Mission: Impossible. Back in August 2017, the actor broke his ankle on set and had to stop filming in order to recover.
“[Tom] hates for the public to see him when he’s not action-hero ready,” an insider told Life & Style at the time. “He tried coming back from the injury too soon in September, and it was the wrong move.”
While Tom needs to make some big career decisions, he is also trying to get his relationship with his daughter Suri back on track. Tom and the 13-year-old have not been photographed together since 2013, a year after he and ex-wife Katie Holmes parted ways. “He saw a photo of Suri looking all grown up, and it changed everything,” an insider told In Touch exclusively, noting that the timing feels “right.” The source added Tom wants to reunite “before it’s too late.”
Maybe if Tom takes a step back from action films, he could be able to rebuild his relationship with Suri. Only time will tell.
