Whoopi Goldberg Admits ‘She Was Very, Very Close to Leaving the Earth’ on ‘The View’
She’s speaking out. After it was revealed that Whoopi Goldberg was battling pneumonia, she finally gave an update on The View as to how she is doing, and fans were shocked by just how serious her illness was.
“Hey, yes, it’s me. I am here,” the 63-year-old said in a taped segment that premiered during the Friday, March 8 episode. “I am up and moving around. Not as fast as I’d like to be, ugh, but I am OK. I am not dead. So, here’s what happened. I had pneumonia and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which means there was fluid. There was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news, I didn’t.”
The New York native couldn’t help but give a shout-out to her loyal followers during this tough time. “Thank you for all of your good wishes,” she said. “And all of the wonderful things that people have been saying. Even people who are not huge fans of mine have actually said nice things about me. We all know that’s gonna change when I get back, but for right now, it’s brilliant, and thank you for everything.”
She continued, “And ladies, I can’t wait to see y’all. This has been interesting, and I’ll tell you about it when we are all at the table. See you soon.” Whoopi signed off by blowing kisses to her cohosts.
The EGOT winner last appeared on the ABC hit show on February 6. On the February 20 episode, Joy Behar explained to the audience what was going on with Whoopi. “She’s actually recovering from pneumonia. That’s what she had,” the 76-year-old said. “It’s a serious thing.” She added, “She’s not really even well enough to host this show right now. She’s getting there. She’s on the mend, so we miss you, Whoopi.”
The View’s official Twitter account announced that the Sister Act star would be sharing an update about her health on Thursday, March 7. “We’ve been sending our well-wishes every day from the Hot Topics table and tomorrow morning we will hear from @WhoopiGoldberg herself on how she’s doing as she recovers from pneumonia.”
We’re wishing Whoopi a speedy recovery during this time.
